a day off

I took the day off from work yesterday to go with Márcia and Deborah to a nearby island called Mar Grande. There isn't much to say about it except that it was absolutely gorgeous, and yet another reminder of why I must leave the house. There is just so much beauty flying around these parts it's hard to keep track of it all. The island is maybe 15km long, and has one main town and a couple little settlements. We went to a beach on the far side called punto de areia, or sandy point. The water was placid (it's in the bay) and was the temperature of a fairly warm bath. I didn't take many pictures because I kept forgetting. We had fried fish and octopus, met some people, and briefly rented a kayak. Coming home we were all so tired that the three of us spontaneously fell asleep, missing our evening plans.

Today I'm back at it with the work. The question is, why? Oh yeah, my future, prior commitments, the supposed good of the world, etc. etc. At least I can content myself listening to a nearby garage band cover, it appears, every song on Nirvana's Nevermind. They don't know the words, but that was never really the point. Oh, they just switched to Unplugged--though they, of course, have remained plugged. It's good, I was getting sick of all that axé/pagode/forró crap anyway.

ps. I finally found out the deal with the fireworks. Apparently Salvador invited teams from all over the globe to compete for the honor of doing their Revellion (New Year's Eve) fireworks, and each team is putting on a show this week to try to win the contract.
